The Wizards returned to action on Wednesday night, our selection of over 40 (over 50..) players from the 3's, 4's & 5's rolled up in Chertsey for the first of the midweek T20 slam games to face Surrey Warriors. It was a gloomy, windy evening facing opposition very smartly kitted out in IPL style uniforms, names, numbers and matching jumpers so we cunningly chose to bat first, reasoning that batting in the failing light would be tricky.

This was a masterful plan, only undone by losing 7 wickets for 32 runs on a pitch that can best be described as variable. Balls leapt to hit the keepers grill, others burrowed underground only to emerge to strike the full on IPL style light up stumps. Ali Grant smiting a giant six way over the boundary proved to be our batting highlight with Andrew Bellwood top scoring on 14 to set the Warriors 58 to chase.

They managed it in 7.4 overs the highlight of which was a fabulous yorker from Nathan Jones (not the current Charlton manager or the one Bananarama sang about) and some smart keeping from Keith Harrington. It is possible that Surrey Warriors are better equipped for a higher level of competition that this but it was a good first run out and all Wizards were delighted to get back to the club in time for training.
