Our young Slam side won a terrific T20 Wednesday night beating Ottershaw by 31 runs in a game that saw 15 wickets, some big sixes and terrific bowling. Ottershaw won the toss and put Weybridge into bat, quickly dismissing the old man of the team James Peters but with seven 6’s and nine 4’s the team raced to 145/7 with strong batting from Aidan Golding, Hugh Rider and Jack Tricker. No batsman chewed up balls all playing on the front foot on a variable pitch to deliver some impressive strike rates, key in T20 cricket.
Ottershaw had some talented batsmen but simply didn’t score fast enough against some aggressive pace bowling delivered by impressive debutant Scott Newlove, Fred Rider, Tom Gardner (1) and Sam Fleury (2). Pace off, saw wickets fall with 2 for Jack Dunlop, 1 for Joel O’Reilly and some impressive catching from Fred Huntington (1) leaving them 114/8.
The Slam side is made up of our best young talent at the club below 2’s level, looking to build good cricket experience. Next up is a home game on the green, Friday 14th June – come down and watch the future.
