Winning the toss and electing to bowl on a questionable surface, play was fractionally delayed by Mike Ferris losing his wedding ring while handing it to Sharon Ferris – more of this later. We had a blend of youth & experience which immediately paid off with George Tricker taking the opener, a spectacular combined slip catch up off Steve Gray to Mike Ferris.

Debut senior wickets followed for Jonty Wright & Charlie Ferris with the slowest bowled you’ll ever see - the ball ricocheting off the batters feet only to trickle behind him and gently tap the stumps just enough to dislodge one bail. With wickets for Ash, Rich, Richard Lewis & Mike we had them at 57-8 before some stubborn resistance at the end. At the innings change (8/10 for the tea) Sharon Ferris returned with a metal detector to find the missing ring, the game soundtracked by beeps and whistles until it was recovered at drinks. While all that was going on the batsman won the game, Steve Gray opening with a solid 34 and Liam Hanafin making amends for his brain fade of last week striking 65 n.o.

We won by 8 wickets, got young players taking senior wickets, had an 8/10 tea and used 7 bowlers. Senior cricket at its best.
